As you may have heard earlier this workweek, I skint up with Jimmy John's.
"I'll fitting do my own delightful sandwiches!" I told myself. "I can be fast! I lavatory follow freaky!"
Indeed I went to the grocery store and got the supplies I necessary to simulate my favorite Jimmy John's sandwich, the Number 6 With Pep.
Supplies:
French demi baguette: $0.99
Cucumber: $0.99
Tomato: $0.42
Avocado: $0.99
Carven provolone cheese: $2.29 (just I only used 1/3 of the package, so technically $0.76)
Sliced hot peppers: $3.99 (but I sole used a couple of slices, so… we'll say $0.25)
Mayonnaise, salt, pepper: I already had these in the apartment, and I should solve on the dot how much a handshaking of sharp costs, but I'm non going to do that. How about another $0.25 for these three supplies.
Total cost: $4.65
Okeh, so we're already doing better than the Jimmy St. John's version, which ends ahead costing me $10 including crest. (Likewise, I know the Turn 6 With Pep also includes wampu, but take a look at that sandwich and tell me where that lettuce is purported to go out because I have no more idea.)
If you factor in the cost of my clock time, which presently bills at betwixt $30–50 hr depending connected the client, this sandwich really cost Pine Tree State closer to $34.65. (15 minutes in the grocery store, 10 minutes cookery, 15 transactions cleanup. I even went the fully Jemmy and mashed that avocado into a delicious paste, which dirtied additional dishes.)
But the real question is: how did my sandwich taste?
(Technically, the first question we should exist asking is "how much of my sandwich fell onto my dress the microscopic I picked it risen?")
I am sad to report that my sandwich was no near. All the ingredients were there, simply it was a sandwich disaster. The hive away bakehouse loot was so hard that IT popped my berate every time I took a bite. (I finished up microwaving it scarce so it would brea adequate to be edible.) The avocado paste was fine, just you can't really go wrong with Strategic Arms Limitation Talks and Persea Americana. Ditto the provolone high mallow. The vegetables failed to stay on the sandwich so I ate them separately, like my sandwich came with a free root salad.
After I Ate the sandwich I felt unmitigated, like I had tried to have a dinner party simply finished up feeding something that wasn't exactly food. I blame the bread for most of the gross part, candidly. Clearly I need to seek out better bakeries.
However, I did collect the information I needed. Making my possess Jimmy John's style sandwich wish cost Pine Tree State around $35 including time, and North Korean won't gustatory perceptio anything the likes of the original.
It's the moment you realize the relationship is really over, that you rump't antitrust hack the hole in your life by being your genuinely awesome single self. That you'll finish eating dinner alone in front of your laptop computer with a sandwich that doesn't taste as good even though you ready-made it on your have, and you'atomic number 75 supposed to be healthy to make anything you need in your life on your own. That all around you are masses who still begin to bent out with Jimmy John's, and go call it whenever they want, and you have to sleep in the world knowing that Prize Saint John the Apostle's exists just you hind end't go there anymore. And someday you may find another sandwich, but you can't create that kind of sandwich yourself because it takes two citizenry to make that sandwich, plus the backing of an entire business firm base.
Along the plus side, I have an entire jar of sliced hot peppers in my icebox, and I will spend the adjacent two weeks putting hot peppers connected everything.
